The Art of Jin Shin Jyutsu® is a very powerful healing art modality. The meaning behind the name is "The Art of the Creator through the person of compassion." Jin Shin Jyutsu * Physio-Philosophy is an ancient art of harmonizing and balancing the life force energy in the body. Born of innate wisdom and passed down from generation to generation by word of mouth, the Art had fallen into relative obscurity when it was dramatically revived in the early 1900's by Master Jiro Murai in Japan.

After clearing himself of a life-threatening illness, Master Jiro Murai devoted the rest of his life to the research and development of Jin Shin Jyutsu, gathering insight from a range of experiences and resources, including the Kojiki (Record of Ancient Things). The resulting knowledge of Jin Shin Jyutsu was then given to Mary Burmeister, who brought it to the United States in the 1950's.

Mary Burmeister began teaching the Art to others in the early 1960's, and today there are thousands of students throughout the United States and around the world.

Jin Shin Jyutsu brings balance to the body's energies, which promotes optimal health and well-being, and facilitates our own profound healing capacity. It is a valuable complement to conventional healing methods, inducing relaxation and reducing the effects of stress. Once we reawaken our awareness to this natural universal life giving energy that permeates the universe, anything is possible! This awareness will genuinely enrich our health and the quality of our lives.

Jin Shin Jyutsu balances the Mind, Body and Spirit through the natural life force energy that comes from our Creator. It balances all organs, chakras and rejuvenates the cells of our body! The techniques used are easy and unobtrusive and assists the body naturally to promote physical, emotional, and spiritual wholeness. It brings Harmony and Balance into seemingly disparate elements through breath and hands on work! These two instruments are all that is needed to eliminate underlying disease or "disharmony" and enhance our physical, mental and emotional vitality!

Jin Shin Jyutsu is now being used at the Markey Cancer Center in Kentucky; please click on this link:

Jin Shin Jyutsu can also be applied as self-help or by a trained practitioner. A Jin Shin Jyutsu session generally lasts about an hour to an hour and a half.

For those of us addressing existing stress or health disharmonies, or for those simply wishing to participate actively in maintaining health, harmony and well-being, the Art of Jin Shin Jyutsu is a simple and powerful tool, available to all!

How does it work?

Jin Shin Jyutsu employs twenty-six "safely energy locks" along energy pathways that feed life into our bodies. When one or more of the paths become blocked, the resulting stagnation can disrupt the local area and eventually disharmonize the complete path of energy flow. Holding these energy locks in combination can bring balance to mind, body and spirit.

Jin Shin Jyutsu does not involve massage, manipulation of muscles, or use of drugs or substances. It is a gentle art practiced by placing the fingertips (over clothing) on designated safety energy locks, to harmonize and restore the natural energy flow. Its cumulative energy promotes greater vitality, self knowledge and restores emotional equilibrium, relieves pain, releases the causes of both acute and chronic conditions and can be used in conjunction with any other therapy or medications. It also facilitates the reduction of tension and stress which accumulates in our lives daily. Many find the Art of Jin Shin Jyutsu a Spiritual experience, one that promotes a simple yet natural way to heal one's body.

Also while learning this healing art, Jin Shin Jyutsu engages one in self study, self help. Through the process of "now know myself" we recognize the wisdom of the body, and we learn to interpret the messages provided and utilize them to restore balance.

"The truth is that within each of us lies the power to cast all misery aside and to Know complete Peace and Wholeness to Be that beautiful creation of perfect harmony to truly KNOW (Help) Myself"

The literal translation of the Sanskrit word chakra is "wheel". Today the term is usually associated with seven focal points of radiant power, or vital energy, within the subtle body. These are centered around the base of your spine, lower abdomen, solar plexus, heart, throat, forehead and crown of your head.

Someone with medical training might understand chakras as energetic centre approximating the nerve plexuses in the physical body. A clairvoyant might regard chakras as vortices of energy. A yogi would define chakras as centers of spiritual consciousness. And psychologists use the chakra system to map the development of the human personality. Each is correct.

You may find it useful to picture your chakras as gears that shift energy either down or up. Let's look first at how energy moves downward through the chakras, from the crown of the head to the base of the spine. Think about what happens when you feel inspired: an idea comes into your head; this is crown-chakra energy. As you turn the idea over in your mind, you start to transform it using brow-chakra energy.

Convinced that the idea is viable, you might discuss it with friends and colleagues, using throat-chakra energy. Then you "take it to heart" (using heart-chakra energy). You invest energy in transforming the idea into physical reality (solar-plexus chakra energy) and you "water" your dream (sacral-chakra energy) until finally it takes concrete form (root-chakra energy). The more you think and talk about the idea, the more you plan and organize it, the denser the concept grows with each downward shift through your energy centers until it comes into being. As you clear your energy flow by practicing chakra meditation, the process of making the idea concrete becomes effortless.

However, we also require upward-flowing energy to begin the journey toward spiritual enlightenment. Chakras shift energy in an upward direction, too, making it less dense. As energy travels upward from its base in the lowest chakra (which is associated with the fixed solidity of the earth element), it becomes freer, lighter and less restricted with each step until, eventually, it transcends the elements earth, water, fire, air and ether on its mission to awaken and liberate your consciousness.
